Active v Passive: Asset TV’s Big Debate with Thomson Reuters Lipper

The active versus passive debate is as enduring as the hills. However, recent fund flows into passive vehicles in pan-Europe have been well ahead of long-term averages.

In this Asset TV panel, Thomson Reuters Lipper data reveals that in 2015, 32% of net flows into mutual funds were into passive vehicles. For 2016 this was 24% and for 2014 only 7%. In the first quarter of 2017, passive flows represented 20% of net flows.
